Muslim LGBT Youth – The Support You Never Had

There’s a plethora of support online for Muslim LGBT Youth. It’s great to see.

I didn’t have that luxury growing up.

Being in my 30s and growing up in the 90s - the idea of being a gay Muslim simply didn’t exist.

The internet - an evil tool of influence?

Muslim LGBT youth, Gen Z, can now find their way through life with the wealth of support they receive online. The support online helps Muslim LGBT Youth come to terms with the challenges they face now and in future.

Charities such as Hidayah exist for that very reason: to help protect LGBT youth.

Scared of coming out?

Maybe you’re questioning whether being a part of the queer umbrella is something for you. I have to admit - coming out as gay and Muslim isn’t easy.

I received my first death threat for this blog today.

Islamic extremism is real - although it may be exaggerated by the media - for queer and gay Muslims the threat of violence is  very real.

Violence can come from the home or externally from a stranger.

Embracing your true nature

God calls us to be ourselves. We are each made unique, with unique nuisances. If you find yourself to be a feminine man it’s not that you are “putting on a show” - it’s simply your nature!

How can one deny one’s true nature? One one. lol.

Suppressing our true self is depressing

In a previous post, we wrote about the term queer Muslim. If we suppress our true nature we end up depressed and probably alone. I say go for it to anyone younger than me - even if you come out later in life - go for it! You do not have to abandon your faith.

You do not have to reconcile between being your authentic self and having faith as pivotal to your identity. You can have both.

Muslim LGBT Youth we salute you. Be brave. Be you.
